It is our custom, in the all the Bible Studies at St. Paul's to, over time, read whole books of the Bible aloud. We go around the circle and each person can read as much or as little as they like within the amount of text we've decided to look at together. This morning, we read a little over five chapters of the book of II Kings. This portion is a collection of fables and stories of the prophet Elisha.
The stories of Namaan (Chapter 5) and of the siege of Samaria (6:24-7:20) were particularly well crafted. As they were read aloud we easily fell into story telling voice and fell under the trance of these tales of long ago and far away. They gave pleasure even as they caused us to reflect a bit about the mysterious ways of God and God's prophets. I commend them to you!
