Seven Pools of Wisdom

Over the next two months in my weekly posts I want to reflect with you on seven pools of wisdom. I intend to be like the man in my favorite definition of Christian evangelism. I intend to be, with you my readers, like one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread.

The seven pools of wisdom are:

1. Book of Common Prayer Life
2. Benedictine Care
3. Scripture
4. Western Christian All-Stars
5. Silence
6. The Poor
7. Discipleship Groups

Over the years, I have drunk deeply from each of these pools. What I have found is that, while each requires a certain amount of persistence and consistency, if we return to them regularly our life is made better.

We have choices in our brief life. We can choose what we will pay attention to in order to receive guidance and wisdom, in order to learn how best to live our lives. There is no bottom to these seven pools of wisdom and, in the end, the water is clear and refreshing.

I hope you return here regularly over the next seven weeks to reflect with me on this profound tradition we have inherited together. Furthermore, I hope that at least one of these posts inspires you to take a next step in your own relationship with Jesus by returning regularly, daily or weekly, to at least one of these deep pools.
